Thanks for your work! I registered yesterday, but it is a bit 'that followed: 3
I take this opportunity to say one thing: How come you have chosen the translation "Pandora Woman"? a "Lady" or "Lady" would have sounded better? ^ ^
about 5 months ago
Thanks to all
@ FWA:
We tried to make the "sama" as appropriate to the historical / geographical / social. In the case of Pandora, we wanted to avoid the English word "Lady" (there are also too out of place in the original ^ ^ "), while we have taken into account in the long" Lady "," high-ranking woman. " At the end won the day "Woman" in its most proper to 700, ie: "Lady, both in the sense of one who ruleth the soul of man is in that historical and social lady, lady, governor." . and as you can see fits perfectly

In my opinion, these are no subtitles and dubbing, you would have to leave unchanged the original terminology simply transcribing "pandora-sama" and then if you really wanted to do puntigliosofacevi a note on the screen (which I do not approve), where the meaning indicated the suffix. With this, however, absolutely do not want to criticize your translation choices, but only speak my mind ...

And why do you say that it was better not to translate it and leave the original Japanese?

If you have translated into any language the Italian "Dr. Pasquale," does not translate the title "Doctor" in the best way to the target language?
Here it is the same situation
But then, leaving the Japanese in this case, because we should not let all the other words?
It 'a translation, not a transcript
Or I did not understand what I mean

In fact you should not have to translate the suffixes as belong exclusively to the context of the text in the source language and have no counterparts in the target language (see the various nii-san, nee-sama, kun, chan, etc. ..). This is a problem of untranslatable you have chosen to solve translating. But I think that, since the subtitles and dubbing, you could help with the original sounds of the video and add a note on the screen. As regards, for example, the term "Dr. Pasquale" in this case the translation is feasible because there is a consideration in almost all languages (Duktur in Arabic, English Doctor ... etc.,)
Not to take not my merits, that the exact translation was not made by me, I have participated in the adaptation.

Rather than "untranslatable", as you say, it was a problem of translation and adaptation difficult, given that it was necessary to find the nearest equivalent of a term between two languages not so related. But difficult does not mean impossible, in fact we did
According to your reasoning, "Dr. Pasquale" was not translated, even if the translation was in fact easier than the various "sama". That is, is not that translates things easy and not challenging things .. would be a good wash of hands on our part.
However, I meant the "Dr." as to who is not a doctor, a typical expression of our local. But if we stay closer to the case of Pandora, an expression such as "Lady Frances" of past centuries, would be made well in Japanese with "sama", using "onna" (woman) would have lost the original sense .. does not translate at all would constitute a limitation of the adapter and translator.
Instead we have chosen to make possible the original meaning in Italian meaning, and often it was a job at the edge of the nerve-wracking, but it was worth it for the final result.
This is not to say that anyone who does not translate because it does not know how to make certain words or do not want them to make mistakes, he is simply a different path than that chosen by us.
As we charge to do, leave without translation and adaptation sama that would be a gap in our

I do not know Japanese, but I have a long academic career as a translator and linguist, I have to underline what was said by the Spirit of Fire is the main objective of any translator. Take the meaning in language, translate it and then fit in the best equivalent in the target language is the golden rule of who do this job.
Never leave something untranslated unless it is a proper name whose origin is typical of the language. To do this requires a lot of great aplomb in both languages and the best result can only be achieved if a native speaker of language A to language B, and studying the native language B which studies the language to work together. I do not know which is your case, however I have to praise your way to translate since it follows the dictates of the pros, but you do it for free. Then on that 'Pandora Sama' (sama get there at least understand it) that it's raining there 'Donna Pandora' is really a very good yield and do not understand what that has to do is not a subtitle and dubbing: the subtitle is not translated and so the dubbing?
If you leave Pandora-sama frankly I would have considered less because I would have seen as a horror, still appreciate the effort.
Excuse me, are chattering, but I wanted to show my respect by virtue of my skills. Keep it up

Thanks for the praise, always welcome, and your advice "of the trade" about it. We are pleased to know to comply with certain standards

But unfortunately in our staff we have no native Japanese who study Italian, perhaps! However we try to translate what you say about doing, sometimes we succeed better than in other
We will continue well, stay certain! As a group we decided long ago that rather than take a step back, we prefer to stop!
